Ed Paschke, Artist, Prof Northwestern U, was a co-founder of Navy Pier Walk and author of the Navy Pier Walk statement:
The importance of Public Art cannot be stressed enough as the 21st century gets underway. Technology is accelerating at a rate of speed faster than we can adapt to it. We are progressively more insulated from our primary emotional responses. Interactivity is being challenged and redefined on many levels. One of the most fundamental expamples of an interactive experience is responding to a painting or sculpture. By placing Art in an accessible setting the general public has an opportunity to get in touch with their basic critical faculties. We need these diverse, sensory, life enhancing experiences more than ever before.
